Dominik Stillhart is the Director of Humanitarian Aid at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He took up this role on 1 March 2023 and became also deputy director general of the Swiss Development Cooperation. Before he worked for over 30 years with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). From 2014 to 2022, he was a member of the Board of Directors and responsible for the organization’s global operations. From 2003 to 2006, he served as Country Director in Sudan and in Israel and the Occupied Territories. In January 2007, he took up the global role as Deputy Director of Operations in Geneva, with a particular focus on security and crisis management. From 2011 to 2014 he led the organization’s human resources transformation and was then appointed Director of Operations. Before that he served in various duty stations including Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Angola, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Afghanistan Dominik Stillhart holds a Master’s degree in Economic Sciences from the University of St. Gallen and an MSc in Social Policy and Planning from the London School of Economics. He is married with four children.
